FASD Awareness Day Walk 2024
September 9, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Thank you!
We are thrilled to share the heartwarming success and photos from our FASD Awareness Day Walk that took place on September 9, 2024!
It was an evening where community members, families, local organizations, healthcare providers, and educators united with a shared purpose – to shine a red light on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and foster understanding within our community.
Despite the weather trying to rain on our parade, our spirited team of red stood strong, demonstrating unwavering support!
A heartfelt thank you goes to Wellington Brewery for their generous and delicious donation of non-alcoholic Hops Water, which kept our spirits high. Also, a special thank you to Gurinder at Dominos Pizza in Guelph for their generous (and equally delicious) donation of pizza for our community of walkers. We would also like to thank our FASD Action Group for their ongoing support. All your kindness and contributions mean so much to our DCAFS community.
Thank you once again to everyone for turning Guelph RED for FASD Awareness. Together, we are making strides toward a more informed and understanding community. Lets keep the momentum going and continue to spread awareness and support through the rest of #FASDAwarenessMonth!
A Call to Action
FASD Awareness Day is not only about education but also about action. We urge policymakers, educators, healthcare professionals, service providers and community members to work together to create a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals with FASD. By increasing awareness and understanding, we can help reduce the stigma and provide the necessary resources for those supporting individuals and those living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

Dufferin County has declared Sept. 9 as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Awareness Day to raise awareness and spread understanding of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD).
At the July 11 county council meeting, Dufferin Child and Family Services co-ordinators Jennie Hilts and Tara Leskey accepted a proclamation and educated council about this disorder. FASD affects four per cent of the population, two times more than other neurological development disorders like autism.
