Participants Wanted: Fathering FASD Study
We want to learn from fathers of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) about their experiences. We will use what we learn to better educate teachers, medical professionals, and service providers about hot to support dads and whole families impacted by FASD.
Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) for Siblings
Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) helps adult siblings of people with disabilities build resilience and struggle less with the difficult feelings and events in our lives.
Siblings Canada hosts ACT workshops and an ACT Peer Learning Group for workshop alumni.
The ACT for Siblings workshops are hosted in partnership with Queen’s University, Siblings Canada and the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence.
The workshops are held virtually twice a year, usually in the fall and the spring. During these workshops we seek, through ACT, to help siblings struggle less with difficult things in their lives and connect with things that are most important in a loving and respectful way. With an introduction to the concept of mindfulness, ACT does not attempt to directly change or stop unwanted thoughts or feelings, but to develop a new mindful relationship with those experiences that can free a person up to being open, and to take action consistent with what they care about.
The workshops run for six weeks and each weekly session is two hours long. More information is available at https://learning.siblingscanada.ca/courses/ACT-for-siblings-info-session
If you have questions or you think you might be interested in ACT and would like to join our waiting list, you can let us know by emailing [email protected].
FASD Never Alone
Canadian FASD self-advocate Miranda Bezell has launched a new support group for adults with FASD aged 18+.
“Welcome to a Community of Understanding and inclusion. Having FASD is a journey that no one should have to navigate in solitude. At ‘FASD Never Alone’, we’re more than just a group – we’re a network of support, understanding, and shared experiences. Here, every voice is important, and every journey is acknowledged.
Join us to share your story, learn from others, and find a sense of solidarity and belonging. Together, we advocate, support, and celebrate each step forward in our individual journeys. Embrace a community where you’re never alone.
